Abstract

This research is research on employees of the Regional Civil Service Agency of West Sumatra Province. This research is entitled: "The Influence of Position Promotion, Work Motivation and Education on the Career Development of Employees of the Regional Civil Service Agency of West Sumatra Province". The aim of this research is to determine the influence of job promotion, work motivation and education on the career development of employees of the Regional Civil Service Agency of West Sumatra Province. The data presented for each variable is in the form of a frequency distribution where each respondent provides an assessment according to the actual situation. This research uses a saturated sampling technique, where the sample is determined by all 74 employees. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis. Before the data is processed, a classical assumption test is carried out first.
In this research, the type of research is based on the method used, namely quantitative research methods. Quantitative research methods can be used to research certain populations or samples, data collection uses research instruments, data analysis is quantitative. The population of this research is all employees of the Regional Civil Service Agency, totaling 74 people. To simplify the calculation of validity and reliability tests, the SPSS version 25 (Statistical Product and Service Solution) application is used. Types and sources of data using primary data sources are data sources that directly provide data to data collectors from the results of questionnaires distributed to a number of sample respondents that match the target and are considered to represent the entire population, which in this study are employees of the Regional Civil Service Agency of West Sumatra Province. Secondary data sources are sources that are indirect through intermediary media or obtained and recorded by other parties. In this research, secondary data will be obtained from literature, articles and sites on the internet.
The data collection method was carried out using interview or questionnaire techniques. The form of instrument in this research is a tool for collecting data which was developed with the help of theoretical studies, operational definitions, causal variables, effect variables which were then developed with the description of indicators. The form of primary data collection instrument is by using a questionnaire. The questionnaire used in this research was prepared using a Likert scale. With a Likert scale, the variables to be measured are translated into indicator variables. Then these variable indicators are used as a starting point for compiling instrument items which can be in the form of statements or questions. The alternative answer is using a Likert scale, namely by giving a score to each question answer.
Respondent characteristics are a description of the respondent's identity, which in this study includes characteristics based on gender, age, length of work and highest level of
ix
education. The normality test is useful to find out whether the residuals are normally distributed or not. The multicollinearity test aims to test the existence of a relationship between the independent variables in the model and based on the test results it shows that there are no problems in the zero-malility, multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity tests.
Based on the results of this research, the results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) The job promotion variable has a significant influence on career development. 2) The work motivation variable does not have a significant influence on career development. 3) The educational variable does not have a significant influence on career development. 4) The variables of job promotion, work motivation and education simultaneously have a significant influence on career development. So it can be concluded that testing the hypothesis which states that there is a simultaneous influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable is acceptable.
